An American Businessman by the name of Harvey Mackay requires his salespeople to fill out a 66 question "customer profile" form. The 66 questions encapsulate...
What are they like as human beings? What are they proud of accomplishing? What’s their life like outside the office? How do they want to be seen by others? In other words, what makes them tick? -Harvey Mackay, Inc.com
If you could tell me 66 personal things about every single person on your need-to-gift list right now, how much easier would it be to nail a tailored, personalized gifting strategy?
How much easier would it be to even do business with that person!?
In this community, there is a great need to recommend some "general" go-to gifts, which we WILL BE DOING! There are some quick and "general" ways to win in gifting (and we are the first people to say that!), but the one way to win that trumps them all is personalization.... And personalization does not always need to mean adding their name or initial to a gift. It can mean that you choose a gift that feels personal to them.
So, how to you do that?
You REALLY get know them. Whether that be through conversation, searching social media, talking to colleagues and connections, learn about what makes them, themselves....and write it down!
As a solo-pro, small business or relationship-first professional, if YOU do this, YOU will have the advantage over the Goliaths. Super Large companies often forget that their own company is run by human beings, and the same forgetfulness carries over into relationships with the companies that they serve and do business with.
If you want to use gifting to grow your business, to loyal-ize a customer. (I know that loyali-ize isn't a word but let's go with it). To capture a new one. To nurture a relationship with a firm you've had your eye on for some time.
Be different. KNOW your people.
And that's the perfect start to becoming a gifting pro.
If you already have a "need-to-gift" list, sit down and think about who each of those people really are.
Do you really know them?
And if you don't have that list yet, start thinking about creating one. Need some pointers on WHO should be on that list? We're going to talk about that in here too.
