Over the past 6 months I have seen myself grow in a multitude of ways. I feel as though I stepped onto campus this fall a very different person. This summer I stepped into a role as a full-time interim director of operations at a top performing real estate firm. Something that not many 20 year olds get to experience. I worked hard, accomplished a lot, and grew-learning to appreciate my strengths, understand my weaknesses, and realize exactly what juice, for me, was worth the squeeze.
That's a quote that my entrepreneurship Professor, Professor Mumford, said on the very first day of class. That his course was designed to explore business and entrepreneurship, but also yourself, so that we can figure out the answer to the question: is the juice worth the squeeze?
With already having a good sense of my answer, I took the opportunities presented in ECON 325 to dive further in and learn more about myself.
I surprised myself by raising my hand enthusiastically to share my origin story with the whole class. So, with that said, it's safe to see that this course definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. And I learned that being pushed like that, and doing things that may make you uncomfortable at the end of the day, makes you better, especially a better entrepreneur.
I learned how to brand myself, and how I want to be seen by others online, on social media, and of course, in real life. The creation of my personal website in this course allowed me to create a direct reflection of who I am and who I want to be for the purpose of better professional and career development.
And lastly, a huge takeaway I learned, was to be different. This class has given me the confidence that I needed to take the step away from the original corporate world track and do my own thing for a while. I learned that I have a lot more time to try new things that make me 10% different than I originally thought, and I can't wait to but this into practice.
I've had a great semester and ECON 325 was a huge piece of that. I am looking forward to all that I continue to learn in my time remaining at UNC.
